Forge your own path
Forge your path and become the hero that you need.
When I was in my late teens, I realized that I didn’t have a support system. I had absolutely no one to rely on if I needed anything. A few people who helped me out only wanted to do so on their terms and would knock down anything I wanted to pursue; for example, when I wanted to go to college, I was told I needed to wait until my son was old enough to stay home alone before I could further my education. I soon realized that I would have to figure a lot of things out on my own. I found childcare and a part-time job. I finagled transportation, and I made it happen. Every time I needed or wanted something, I had to just figure it out and get it done. Not to mention, I was single parenting, showing up for my child in every possible way I could. I had to be my son’s hero, and I had to be my own hero at the same time.
Becoming the hero you need starts with self-reflection and action. Set a moral compass by understanding what matters most to you. Establish short- and long-term goals. Practice empathy by listening to others and trying to understand their perspectives. Attempting to understand others helps build stronger connections and allows you to support those in need. Be accountable and responsible for your actions: accept your mistakes, learn from them, and strive to do better. Become resilient by embracing setbacks as part of the journey. Look for opportunities to help others, whether it’s through volunteering, mentoring, or simply being there for someone in need. Grow your understanding to help make better choices; learn continuously. Lead by example, be the change you want to see and motivate those around you to join in. Stay true to yourself: don’t compromise your beliefs for acceptance; your uniqueness is your strength. Celebrate your small wins. By embodying these qualities and actions, you can become the hero not just for yourself, but for those around you.
Build resilience because your experience highlights the strength it takes to become both your own hero and your child's.

Scripture: Galatians 6: 4-5
4 “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct” (NLT).
Prayer:
Dear God,
Help me to pay careful attention to my own journey and the work You've set before me. Grant me the strength and wisdom to take responsibility for my actions and to find satisfaction in my efforts. Remind me to celebrate my progress without comparison, knowing that I am uniquely crafted for Your purpose. May I be my own hero, trusting in Your guidance every step of the way.
Amen.
